Description

Issue of Wichita Protest newspaper dated June 24, 1921, covers Tulsa Race Massacre which occurred May 31-June 1, 1921. Front page banner headline "Property Losses in Tulsa Riot Reach $4,000,000" and news items grouped under "Sidelights on Tulsa Horror" tell of the incident through reprints of Tulsa newspaper articles, the Wichita Protest editor's response and African American poet Andy Razaf's "A Voice from Flanders Fields" after World War I poem "In Flanders Fields." Wichita Protest was an African American newspaper published in Wichita by father and son W. A. and Charles S. Bettis.
