Abstract
I will be performing Blues and Variations for Monk by David Amram for unaccompanied French horn. This piece is one of the pieces in my senior recital. A senior recital as a music performance major must feature at least 45 minutes of music, preferably in different styles and from different time periods. I have been working on Blues and Variations for Monk for three months and it has been a great pleasure to learn this piece. I have worked on it by listening to different recordings and interpretations, different styles of jazz, practicing the music, and performing for my fellow peers and horn professor. Creative projects, like this piece I have chosen to perform for you, are always works in progress and can never be considered complete. I hope that the version I perform for you conveys my musical message and emotion I have put into the piece. The truest conclusion from this activity will be delivering my emotion through this music in my recital.
