Abstract
We deal with recovering the discontinuity surface of the speed of the threedimensional wave propagation from (single) boundary observation. We prove a sharp uniqueness result assuming that the surface is the graph of a function of the depth and that the reference domain is a half-space. We make use of (new) exact results on the uniqueness of the continuation for hyperbolic equations, orthogonality relations, and of careful geometrical study of waves propagation. © 1996, Walter de Gruyter.
