Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is threefold: The first purpose was to develop and build a sample-hold unit for the electrical engineering laboratory to be used for future experimental work conducted at the University in the area of sampled-data systems. Since a sample-hold device is not commercially available, and a satisfactory design could not be found ' described 1n the literature, it was necessary to design and construct a usable piece of equipment. The unit had to be compatible with other existing servo equipment available in the laboratory.
Another purpose of this thesis was to develop experiments . which would illustrate, amplify, or verify theory developed in the standard sampled-data texts. These experiments (and the sample-hold unit) would presumably be used by students in future advanced electrical engineering laboratory courses. The experimental work performed for this thesis is presented in a manner which is hoped can be duplicated by a graduate student.
A third purpose of this thesis is to suggest areas where further experimental activities could be directed That is, based upon the knowledge and experience gained from the preparation of this thesis, where would future work be most profitably applied.
