Abstract
This thesis was written and an experiment performed in the interest of finding a method for improving the efficiency of a solar still. Specifically, the method tried here was the addition of black dye to the basin water to increase the absorptivity of the evaporating media. This experiment was performed in a vacant area adjacent to the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory at Wichita State University. Two identical stills were constructed and were operated side by side. One still was used as a baseline operating with clear water, the other still contained black dyed water. The results of this experiment are presented as plots of production versus solar insolation and comparative efficiency plots for the two stills.
