Description
Special 48 page section in Wichita Sunday Eagle and the Wichita Beacon commemorating the history, achievements and contributions of the University of Wichita and Fairmount College, the forerunners of Wichita State University. Section published June 2, 1963, three weeks after Wichita voters overwhelmingly approved transfer of the University of Wichita to the state system of higher education. Many advertisers in the section send congratulations to the newly approved "Wichita State University." Among the factual errors in the section: Last name of Fairmount College's first president Nathan Morrison misstated as Norris in photo caption on page 42. Boulder serving as Morrison's headstone in Maple Grove Cemetery came from New Hampshire not Kansas as stated in same caption.
