M.G.M. Presents Shaft Starring Richard Roundtree, Gwen Mitchell; Gordon Parks, director. M.G.M. Motion Picture Musical Score by Isaac Hayes, the Black Moses of the Music World

This souvenir promotional publication contains photographs of and information about recording sessions for the Shaft soundtrack, musicians involved and composer Isaac Hayes. Also includes Shaft movie cast and credits, synopsis and still photographs of actors and director Gordon Parks. Cover inscribed "Best to you" and signed by "Jesse." Movie premiered July 2, 1971. Composer and performer Hayes won an Academy Award for "Theme from Shaft," marking first time the "Best Original Song" Oscar was awarded to an African American composer.
