Abstract
Research question: How should companies in the Engineering industries approach AI ethics in the workplace? Research methods: Non-generalizable stakeholder-engaged conceptual analysis component of value sensitive design for AI use planning. Using start values from multiple frameworks such as Nussbaum's Capabilities Approach, employ conceptual analysis and other philosophical methods to initiate the iterative process of value sensitive design. Using my own technological expertise in Socratic dialog with peer stakeholders in engineering, update the value set to propose guidance for ethical AI use in engineering. This research is not complete, but preliminary results for the update include the need for shared governance or peer review in AI tool building for engineering use, explicit guidelines for safety, and the need to focus on job security and configuration in later iterations that include empirical analysis. (Empirical analysis is not within the scope of this project.)
