Center for Energy Studies

Permanent URI for this community

During the 1970’s-1980’s time period, Wichita State University operated a Wind Energy Laboratory (later renamed Center for Energy Studies) supported by state funding and directed by Dr. Gary Thomann, professor of Electrical Engineering. The group designed instrumentation and conducted field surveys of Kansas winds at a number of locations across the state to seek suitable sites for wind turbine farms. The Energy Laboratory also operated a small wind turbine at a suburban residence for several years, near 53rd street north and Hillsides avenue. Results of the research of this group were published as Wind Energy Reports (WER’s) and Energy Reports (ER’s). Some of these reports retained by the Special Collections unit of Ablah Library are digitized and published in SOAR in 2013.
