Leveraging Library Resources for Undergraduate Research in Biomedical Engineering
(Wichita State University, 2024-05-23) Coffman, Lauren; Spinelli, Taylor; Lozano, Marcell
This essay highlights the significant role of the Ablah Library in supporting undergraduate research in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Wichita State University. The group project "Cardiovascular Health Monitoring Using Multiple Conformal Photoplethysmography Devices for Use in Spaceflight" for BME 590 Independent Study and Research, guided by Dr. Yongkuk Lee, leverages the library's extensive resources. SmartSearch has been instrumental in sourcing credible and up-to-date articles, facilitating students' research on photoplethysmography (PPG) for cardiovascular health monitoring. The library's filtering capabilities and free access to full-text articles have been invaluable, especially given the limited budget. Additionally, the availability of group collaboration spaces and technical support has been crucial for preparing presentations for URCAF and NASA. The low-cost color printing services further enhance students' ability to visualize and annotate research materials. Overall, the Ablah Library has significantly contributed to the efficiency and success of the students' research efforts.
