Abstract

Mobile ad hoc wireless networks are expected to play a very important role in the future. Therefore, extensive research has been conducted to understand and analyze these networks under various conditions of strategic routing, traffic, topology and mobility. A new 'link availability ratio' is introduced, which represents the initial condition of the network dynamic. The effects of the different parameters mentioned above with respect to their effect on throughput availability in the network are observed and analyzed. The analytical model of the capacity of an 802.11 based ad hoc network developed took the routing, traffic, topology and mobility factors into consideration, in addition to the link availability ratio introduced in this paper. This comprehensive model should ultimately help in prioritizing and resolving design issues associated with any specific kind of ad hoc network deployment
