dc.description.abstract	This year's volume presents six papers ranging in nature from biological to sociocultural and archaeological anthropology. Volume twenty-nine opens with an article by Harle addressing issues of progressive social complexity using examples of hunter-gatherer societies. Immediately following, McDowell discusses the role of women artisans in traditional Japanese societies. In her paper on disease and anemia in childhood, Quave addresses issues of nutritional and medical anthropological nature and the effects of global efforts in health matters in the developing world. Rivers' contribution from a study of historical archaeology evaluates the application of dating teclmiques using window glass to determine temporal affiliation of historic structures. The debate over the origin of language is addressed by Cunningham in her paper Language and Evolution. She addresses issues of anatomical and physiological capacity of language among the hominine subfamily based on morphological evidence of comparative primate anatomy and from the fossil record. The volume closes with an article by Lynch addressing psychosocial issue in family planning matters.
