Sara Butts is an Information Services Research Assistant at Wichita State University. She earned a BA in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English at WSU in 2013 and an MLS from Emporia State University with an emphasis in Librarianship for Children and Young Adults in 2016. Since 2015, she has worked with the government documents collection and has helped patrons with patents and trademarks information. WSU Libraries are designated as both a selective Federal Depository Library (FDL) for government documents and the only Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) in Kansas.

Her research interests include: connecting entrepreneurs and inventors with patent and trademark resources, improving visibility of the FDL and PTRC programs, and the process of selecting and weeding government documents in a selective depository. She presents workshops on intellectual property, digital literacy and presentation tools, and finding government information online, among other topics.

In addition to her work at the University, Sara is also the President Elect and Newsletter Editor for the Wichita Area Library Association (WALA).
