dc.description.abstract Although hundreds of volumes have been written about leadership, very little of that has focused on how to lead others to being creative. There are many reasons for this, but a particularly important one is the belief that creativity is innate – a personality characteristics – and cannot be affected by outside forces like leaders. In this talk Dr. Farmer presents findings from a decade of research focused on employee creativity in the workplace. Leaders can build and augment the propensity and ability of workers to be creative, but ultimately, creativity in the workplace must come from each worker’s decision to engage – to try to be creative and to persevere through the difficulties and challenges that are an inherent part of creative work. It is how leadership affects that self-image, and builds individuals’ abilities and desires to choose to act creatively, that is the topic of this presentation. en
