Abstract: We propose to present a model of building public websites from specialized data in Voyager. The website of Faculty Research Publications at Wichita State University will be featured. This presentation will first explore the need of publicly presenting SQL query results from Voyager database, and these needs can include showcasing featured collections such as leisure reading, World War II Newsmap posters, featured authors and new book lists. In presenting our featuring website, we will discuss how we select faculty publications data from the oracle database and store it in Microsoft Access, and how we create the website using ASP, JavaScript, XHTML and CSS for web browsing and search. It will also show some features like connecting each record in this website to OPAC correspondingly, adding RSS feeds, Syndetic and other cover images. Some code will be disposed and future possibilities will also be discussed. Description: Presented at the MPLA/KLA Annual Conference, Wichita, KS, April 3, 2009. Abstract: When library needs change, how does technical services respond? In the last two years, Wichita State started an Institutional Repository, created an Electronic Resources position, and coped with the retirement of a long-term Acquisitions Manager. We'll describe our process of communicating and cooperating to define new roles to meet changing needs. Abstract: This workshop described the development of two serials management databases at Wichita State University (WSU) in Kansas. The databases facilitate periodical labeling, checkin, and use data collection. Usage information is loaded into another database which serves collection development needs. Nancy Deyoe, Principal Cataloger at WSU, described the labeling and checkin processing and workflow features. Kathy Payne, previously Science Librarian at WSU and currently Head of Reference at Weber State University, described the development and use of the collection development program. Both presenters demonstrated the use of the two databases. Description: Article copies available from The Haworth Document Delivery Service: 1-800-HAWORTH. Abstract: This presentation introduces the dynamic mapping version 2 at Wichita State University (WSU) Libraries. This Java-based new version added a map administration interface and stores shelving map images in an XML database. It enhances the data architecture by switching the mapping scripts from an additional server to the Voyager server where library bibliographic and holding information resides on. It is developed by Erik Mallory at WSU Computing Center based on the initial ASP scripts by Hongfei Li and mapping ideas brought up and promoted by Nancy Deyoe. This presentation also introduces the animated 3D maps created by Sai Deng using Google SketchUp and Antics which aims to engage the Google generation of students. The simplified map administration allows library staff with no scripting experience to update the map images as well. WSU's dynamic mapping feature was first introduced to the Voyager community at the 2007 EndUser conference, and the new version encourages the potential use of this application by other Voyager libraries. Abstract: Adding more features to the web OPAC or making the Integrated Library Management Systems (ILMS) more compatible to external web services has been a tendency in recent years. Wichita State University (WSU) Libraries' Dynamic Map Project enriched the bibliographic information by displaying dynamic map(s) for each individual record in the web OPAC. Dynamic mapping provides a customized map display in an online public access catalog to give library patrons directional information to the shelved items. This article will discuss how the dynamic map project evolved and the pros and cons of using holdings records versus bibliographic records to generate the maps. It will describe the programming logic of the interactive direction maps to handle complex shelving situations. It will also address how to transfer data from the OPAC display to a processing program, and then combine this data with the data from linked tables in MS Access and an ILS database. User feedback and future possible enhancement of dynamic mapping in a library will also be discussed. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/10057/1250 Files in this item: 1
